Purpose of Position

The Linden Hills Store Director is responsible for all aspects of daily Linden Hills store operations. They will ensure smooth daily store operations, prompt and friendly customer service, a product selection that meets the needs and desire of the community, and a well maintained store appearance.  The Store Director coordinates with direct reports to ensure department operations are effective and meet Co-op standards.

They will work with all direct reports to ensure fairness and equity for policy adherence. They help create a positive work environment and develops positive and effective work relationships with direct reports.

They ensure all departments meet customer service, sales, margins, and labor goals.

They will work to achieve the goals, objective, and standards in alignment with TCCP's mission and supports the goals and strategies of the CEO.

Store Operations

  • Ensure that every customer who shops at Linden Hills Co-op feels welcome and has an exceptional shopping experience.
  • Ensure that all aspects of Linden Hills store operations serve TCCP's mission and values.
  • Model exceptional customer service skills.
  • Model exceptional communication and teamwork. Set the expectation and tone for workplace conduct.
  • Conduct multiple daily store walks to ensure Linden Hills Co-op is meeting all operational expectations every day.
  • Provide a strong management and leadership presence in the store.
  • Lead regular monthly store management meetings.
  • Participate in regular monthly TCCP management meetings.
  • Develop annual strategic plans for Linden Hills Co-op in tandem with department managers and senior co-op management.
  • Collaborate with marketing and purchasing departments to develop meaningful and seasonal promotional plans that contribute to TCCP's overall marketing and merchandising goals.
  • Coordinate operations between and among store departments.
  • Ensure communication within the Linden Hills store and with TCCP is effective.
  • Coordinate all aspects of store work with centralized TCCP administrative departments.
  • Promote and comply with all relevant safety standards and health department requirements.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of storefront, parking lot, and other co-op service areas.
  • Monitor store equipment and fixtures and ensure they are maintained in good working order.
  • Monitor Customer Service Survey results for Linden Hills, report results to management team, and develop strategies to improve performance.
  • Ensures store facility is safe and secure for customers, staff, equipment, and inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned by senior co-op management.

 

Financial Performance

  • Collaborate with Retail Operations Director, CFO, and CEO to develop annual operating and capital budgets for store. 
  • Regularly review financial performance reports and adjust store operations as necessary to achieve sales, margin, and labor goals.
  • Review departmental financial performance reports and work with department managers to develop appropriate operational responses as necessary to achieve goals.
  • Understand and ensure the proper implementation of the TCCP Pricing Strategy in all departments.
  • Develop and implement policies to ensure shrink is within industry standards.
  • Participate in quarterly inventories.

Personnel Management

  • Supervise significant personnel actions in the assigned departments in compliance with applicable State and Federal laws, and store policy and past practice. Make recommendations to Human Resources and COO/CEO when needed.
  • Complete, deliver, and follow-up on direct report annual performance evaluations. Make recommendations to COO/CEO for compensation adjustments.
  • Monitor direct report schedules. Review and approve direct report time-off requests.
  • Assist in succession planning activities for direct reports.
  • Partner with Human Resources for recruiting efforts and participate in supervisory and management interviews in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Conduct disciplinary reviews for direct reports as necessary.
  • Ensures all departments maintain sufficient staffing for daily operations, within assigned labor budgets.
  • Assists department managers with hiring department staff when necessary.
  • Models behaviors of TCCP Key Ingredients.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • 5+ years supervisory and retail management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to regularly present to small and large groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Experience with retail POS systems preferred.
  • Experience with union workplaces preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends in natural foods industry preferred.
  • 4-year degree preferred.

 

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged standing and walking on the sales floor
  • Ability to perform continuous fine work and gripping with hands
  • Corrected vision to enable reading small print
  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, occasionally more
  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes under extreme temperature and weather conditions
