Purpose:  Responsible for secondary oversight of the HBC Department.  Supports the HBC Manager in purchasing, pricing, promotions, and building displays (vitamins, supplements, personal care, etc.). Meets and exceeds objectives in sales, margin, labor, and customer service within the guidelines established by store policy and Store Director. Always maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities:

CUSTOMER SERVICE

 

  1. Provide friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service. Answer questions on supplementation and nutrition within legal DSHEA compliant guidelines.
  2. Model exceptional customer service skills. Communicate expectations to all staff.
  3. Ensure staff is trained in assisting customers within the store by providing information, locating products, explaining membership, and providing any other service the customer may need.
  4. Provide adequate training for staff to uphold department standards of excellence.
  5. Ability to work with all sub departments in HBC: Natural Home, HST, Personal Care, and Supplements.

 PLANNING

 

  1. Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports; plan corrective action as needed.
  2. Develop and implement short and long-term department goals.
  3. Schedule monthly meetings to discuss merchandising updates and product placement.

PURCHASING

  1. Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
  2. Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply.
  3. Research and present new vendors to HBC Manager and Purchasing Coordinator for approval.
  4. Follow procedures for ordering, receiving, pricing, and stocking.
  5. Place orders and oversee ordering to ensure regular supply and minimal outs.
  6. Understand pricing to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive edge.

MERCHANDISING

  1. Plan and maintain attractive displays. Set quality and display standards.
  2. Ensure accurate, up-to-date pricing while protecting margin.
  3. Maintain clear, attractive, consistent signage.
  4. Provide product information customer inquiries, promotions, or newsletter.

DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

  1. Keep accurate shrink records and coordinate returns and credit from suppliers.
  2. Ensure the HBC Department is always kept clean and organized.
  3. Find ways to improve the department on a regular basis.

PERSONNEL

 

  1. Work with HR & HBC Manager to hire qualified applicants following established policy.
  2. Ensure on-the-job training of all department staff.
  3. Maintain communication with staff through regular meetings and email correspondence.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with vitamins, supplements, herbs, natural cosmetics, and body care products.
  • Ability to read financial statements with a firm grasp of margin and pricing.
  • Knowledge of trends in the natural foods industry.
  • Communications skills good listener; gives clear instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and handle multiple demands.
  • Willingness to work various shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
