FULL TIME, OVERNIGHTS, 7pm to 5am (4 X 10 HOUR SHIFTS PER WEEK)

PURPOSE: Assist Management in all aspects of the Co-op Bakehouse bread/pastry production and ensure its efficient and profitable operation while acting as a communication link between Bakehouse staff and managers.

REPORTS TO: Bakehouse Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Daily oversight of staff preparing daily production lists, providing on-the-spot feedback, assigning end of shift cleaning tasks and generally overseeing their work. Report attendance and job performance information to manager. 
  • Prepare baked goods accurately following recipes, in an efficient time-effective manner.
  • Product quality follow established methodology and formulas for baking bread and pastry lines.
  • R&D working with manager to develop new or improve existing recipes.
  • Training developing skills of existing and new staff
  • Production - looking ahead and plan production accordingly and alerting manager when seeing upcoming issues with workload.
  • Problem-solving handling any issues that come up during the shift in absence of manager. Communicate with manager as needed.
  • Managing labor cutting when work is done for the day, asking manager for OT approval.
  • Administrative duties - invoicing and credits to customers or duties as assigned.
  • Food safety - comply with all Health Department and Organic Certification requirements.
  • Inventory assist in quarterly process.
  • Ordering - assist in ordering bakery ingredients and supplies. Communicate with buyer/receiver about received product that is damaged for return to vendor for credit in a timely manner.
  • Equipment - maintain and clean equipment and inform Bakehouse Manager if repairs are needed.
  • Systems - Give input and assist management in implementing new product ideas and systems. 
  • Policies - enforce company policies with all Bakehouse staff. Work in a safe manner, following safety procedures and Supervisor safety responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years' experience working in a bakehouse (bakery).
  • Supervisory experience with production staff.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, displaying a calm and professional demeanor, in fast-paced team environment while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Flexible schedule, with ability to fill in for other leads/manager on other shifts, preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish helpful, but not required. 
  • Ability to read & follow directions. 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to bend, grasp and lift (up to 60 lbs.)
  • Continuous standing and walking for 10-hour shift
  • Good tasting and smelling ability
